I am an award winning quilt artist whose work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, and has won many prizes including Championship quilt twice. I had a very successful solo exhibition Colour - Quilts - Collage in Peebles in 2011 which subsequently travelled around the U.K.I have also entered the world of mixed media and my ATC Enduring, Unending won Best of Show in the House of Cards exhition, Columbus, Ohio, 2005. I worked as a member of the Alpha Stamps Design Team for 4 years from 2007-2010. My art has been published in a wide variety of magazines and books both here in the U.K. and abroad. I'm improving as a photographer by uploading one picture every day to the Blipfoto site and my interest in graveyards has led me to start a separate blog about my local one in West Linton. I'm currently working on making one Journal Quilt every week in 2012 (the 52 Journals Project)
Gillian Cooper interviews me on pages 20 - 21 and Sweet Spring (detail) features on the cover!
and also in issue 77 of Fabrications
in which my two Lucy Journal Quilts are featured.

Making an Exit; from the magnificent to the macabre; how we dignify the dead. By Sarah Murray. Since I started ordering books about graveyards etc. from Amazon they helpfully provide me with recommendations on the subject and I must admit simply seeing the picture on the front of this book was enough to persuade me I had to have it. And I was not disappointed. Spurred on by the meticulous arrangements her father had made for the disposal of his "organic matter" Sarah started to ask herself how she would like to depart this world. Contrary to what you might think the resulting book isn't depressing in the slightest, rather it's filled with humour, just even fun, while at the same time opening a window showing the amazing ways various cultures deal with their dead. It's a travelling book both to actual locations and to the realms of fantasy that death has occupied in the mind of human beings over time. It's informative, humourous and wonderful to read. Sarah never gets morbid but considers death a natural consequence of living and looks into ways to make our departure easier both on us and on those we leave behind. In the process she comes up with some truely original turns of phrase and fascinating facts to to with the business of dying. Reading this book can make you feel that death can be a friend rather than an enemy. Click on the picture to find the accompanying website!
Work like you don't need the money. Dance like no one is watching. Sing like no one is listening. Love like you've never been hurt. Live life every day as if it were your last. (Irish proverb)
