Look Up at the Sky

The theme for February on The Documented Life Project 2016  remains: Love without Hesitation - taking the leap. I have to admit to being slightly tired of loving and leaping so instead concentrated my efforts on the challenge of adding a Gratitude to the spread that was done in my 8 x 8" Dylusions journal.

I found a quotation on Pinterest I liked a lot (I have no idea where it originated)and that determined the look of the pages. I wanted to make it look like the night sky with someone doing the contemplating. Knowing it and making it proved to be two rather different things.

I can't tell you just how many layers the background (which you can now only see on the tree insel), took but it was more than 5. I covered over with gesso and started all over again many times until eventually calling it quits and moving on. On all the background layers,  I used a stencil (Palm Fronds Silhouettes from Stencilgirl) but I defy anyone to still see traces of it!

The other stencil, or rather mask,  I used, however, is clearly visible and it is that beautiful tree (Windswept Tree Stencil by Stencilgirl).. I put it down on the pages and over sprayed it with blue spray ink (Liquitex). It was only then that I was happy with the colour of the sky. I added a collaged angel to do the contemplation.

The large stars came from a Balzer Designs stencil and the little ones from sequin waste. They were stencilled with iridescent white paint. The quotation was written on a piece of lined paper and adhered to the page as shown after antiquing the edges using a Distress Ink Pad. A self-adhering sparkling circle forms the moon.
