This is my favourite book by Jilly, describing in diary form her dog walks on Putney Common where she then lived. It was published in 1984. It accompanied me on my own dog walks reading along with her on the entries. Here is the one for October 6, 1981:
Beautiful day. Eiderdown of thick mist lying just above the grass, echoed by a thick band of dark hyacinth-blue cloud against a sky of very pale Cambridge blue.
