The Colour Me Positive prompt for this week was: Be the Best and the art challenge asked us: If you had one superpower, what would it be? I thought long and hard about that question but I'm clearly not someone who deserves to be given super powers as I haven't come up with a satisfying answer yet. As far as our prompt is concerned I used a quotation that reads:"It's not about being the best, it's about being better than you were yesterday".
Having sadly said goodbye to the Olympics for the next 4 years my spread (done in the A4 Dylusions journal), gives a nod to them as there is a platform and a winner (both on the page and on the postage stamp) and the words: "Be the best you can be".
I started by stencilling the background using the large stencil from the Pattern Play collection, that was the February 2015 Stencilgirl Club set and in the foreground I added the L378 Ladders stencil representing stairways to heaven or to glory, whatever way you want to look at it. Both stencils were designed by Carolyn Dube. I also used one of the art foamies (Ring TicTac) designed by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer.
I collaged on the podium using a tissue paper to represent it, as well as the goddess at the top. The black circles and squares came from a hand-made paper. I coloured them in with water soluble oil crayons.
Stick-on stars were added to enhance the celebration as well as some glitter paint from Marthy Stewart.
The words were written on and the postage stamp, again referring to the Olympic theme, was glued on to finish off the spread.
