Frogs of Penicuik Estate

During our dog walk in Penicuik Estate this afternoon we spotted no less than 3 frogs in different places. The above one is a detailed picture of the one also pictured at the bottom of this post.

They must be suffering from spring fever (despite the cold wind) and looking for a mate. All of them stayed put despite the presence of Flora (who was totally uninterested) and her friend, a very large fluffy black male dog (perhaps Flara too is in the mood for Spring). The above one seemed to look straight at me but was entirely unbothered by our presence.

I know they are not very cuddly but I'm very keen on these fascinating creatures.

PS I thought they were toads but apparently they are frogs. Must really do a bit more research into finding out how to tell the difference!

I think they're quite fascinating too. And that first one sure does look like he's staring you down:)

I LOVE toads - especially because my Mum shared with me Wind in the Willows when I was young and I learned about naughty Toad of Toad Hall lol. Mine have not come out yet but I am hoping I have a large group like last year. I must say yours have much more interesting markings...

As the wife of a herpetologist, even an Australian variety, we reckon they are frogs!
