By the Sea Gothic Arch

The new Gothic Arches Challenge theme is By the Sea and for once I knew exactly what to do. I had bought the most gorgeous mermaid fabric when I was teaching at the Purely Patchwork shop last weekend. How's that for timing? So as soon as the By the Sea words hit me, I was off to get it out. I found a bluish/white fabric for the background, which I ironed to Fast2Fuse and then stitched in curvy lines to represent waves in the sea.

I added the mermaid by using Bondaweb (Wonderunder in the U.S.) leaving the fish tail to peek over the edge of the arch. I added a net and an actual shell caught into it, added some crinkly knitting yarn to represent seaweed and also added that to the edges of the arch. Finally I added some beads and bugle beads.

Only problem was that I had to photograph the arch, rather than scan it as it's a very 3-D arch but it does not look too bad, even so.

I love this, especially the 3D-ishness of it. I think it is one of my favorites from all of your arches. The mermaid fabric is beautiful.
