StencilGirl December 2023 Project

A bit of sparkle never goes amiss at this time of year and I love taking a peek in all the lighted windows as I’m passing, admiring the decorations. That was the inspiration for this spread. StencilGirl October 2023 Project

I always have some hand made postcards at the ready for when I might need one. And of course they sometimes disappear fast so it’s time to make some new ones. Here is the link to the tutorial:

StencilGirl August 2023 Project

Sometimes I get inspired by just going through my stencils and simply coming upon one that attracts my attention. In this case it was the text Be True to Yourself that made me think. It is at times quite hard to even know who you are and it is also a fluid concept, as we continually change. Who I am today is more than likely not who I will be tomorrow. And I don’t know about you but my head is always full of those sort of thoughts. Sometimes I wish there was an Off switch. That was the sort of idea I tried to capture in this spread.

StencilGirl July 2023 Project

While cleaning up my studio (yes, I do occasionally do this!) I found a blank Seawhite A5 Concertina sketchbook. No doubt I bought it for a reason, but I had no idea what that could have been so I decided to use it for my own purposes. And I have made a start with this project. In this tutorial I’m only working on the first 6 pages or so and l will continue to fill it up so expect to see more of it in the future. Whenever I had left over ink on the stamps or paint I spread it around on future pages in order to avoid blank page syndrome.

StencilGirl February 2023 Project

Of course this month is all about hearts and I couldn’t resist adding my small version. The quotation I used comes from the poem Out of the sunset’s red, by William Stanley Braithwaite.

StencilGirl January 2023 Project

Most of us like surprises and the season for them has just gone, but that’s no reason not to continue with them a bit longer. I sometimes like to surprise myself too, and this project provides a perfect opportunity. To start off, you work on one sheet and play around with it. Then you make it into a one sheet booklet and you’ll be surprised what ends up o every page. You have the choice to leave it as is or to add more to the pages as I’ve done.

StencilGirl December 2022 Project

This time of year always calls for a bit of sparkle and this project is full of it!

There were many prints left over from my November project and I decided to use them as the starting point for this month’s project. Check out that project for the stencils I used at the time but you can use any of your left over prints. I’m sure that most of you have a pile as large as mine.

StencilGirl November 2022 Project

Sometimes inspiration comes from unexpected sources. I usually start with a random browse through my stencils. I keep them all in a box which is not very organized but it means I’m forced to rummage around and this month it led to an unexpected find. I discovered two stencils laying on top of each other and I fell in love with the effect this producedStencil L169 Crackle was on the bottom and on top of it was the large stencil from the July 2019 Stencilgirl®Club. I really liked the effect and set about recreating it on my pages.

StencilGirl July 2022 Project

We have arrived at the height of summer, at least if you live in the Northern Hemisphere, and it is time to celebrate our gardens. That is also what I tried to do on this spread, using one of the stencils from Stencilgirl® Product that is so perfect in itself that I wanted to use it as is.

StencilGirl June 2022 Project

This spread was inspired by an image in an interior design magazine that showed a collection of textured vases together in bright colours. I don’t have that many vases so decided to recreate it in an art journal spread instead. Afterwards I found a quotation that really resonated with me, also about vases.

StencilGirl April 2022 Project

As I mentioned previously in my February 2022 project I had bought some black sheets of paper from Arteza that were pre-scored to be folded into 7 x 8.6” frames, and it seemed a shame not to use them again as I was rather taken with them. This is the result.

The 100 Day Project

Today is the start of The 100 day project, where you undertake to do something every day for 100 days. This can be anything of your own choosing. Mine is art related and I will be posting the result on my Instagram account daily (@friedaquilter). I’m making 5 x 7” cards using collage as the main feature and using the many sheets made during the making of other art and leftovers from previous projects. I won’t show them all here but some might pop up (during rainy days like today)

StencilGirl February 2022 Project

February is a month with very low light levels and after getting through January I always dread going through another winter month. At least it’s shorter by some days! One way I use to cheer myself up is to use as much colour as possible whenever I can, and this project (or rather projects) grew out of that desire.
