We are now allowed two walks here in Scotland as long as we stay close to home. What joy!

This is a very deceptive picture. It was so windy it was at times hard to walk, we were drenched by rain/hail/wet snow and only very occasionally the sun came out. Warm it was definitely not!

Who’s in charge?

Roads less travelled

It has been too long since I went on a spontaneous road trip but today after collecting one of my quilts which had been beautifully quilted by Kay Bell, I spotted a turning for St. Mary's Loch, so  I turned off the main road (that itself was one track!) and had some fun on single track lanes where the only obstacles are cattle grids and sheep. This is where small cars have a distinct advantage!

Don't you just love such multi-coloured sheep!

I was reminded of the fact that I love to do this, and should start to plan  more of these little photographic excursions now that the weather will only get better. I have been on some roads I have never been on before today and although the weather was a bit miserable the views were still great. 

The Working Borders

On my way to the village to post some Christmas parcels I encountered lots of sheep, three dogs and their shepherds. It was a frosty morning and the scene put me in the right mind for Christmas for some reason. I know that despite it's idyllic look being a sheep farmer in the Scottish Borders is very hard work but on a splendid day like this it must also be a pleasure.

Exhibition Harestanes Countryside Visitor Centre

 I met up with a friend today at Harestanes Countryside Visitor Centre to have a chat, enjoy a delicious lunch and visit the Celebrating Seasons exhibition by Simon and Laura Blackwood. I love Laura's work especially and have her gorgeous book: A Celebration of Nature.

 Her work brought colour and light into what otherwise was a grey and damp day. I highly recommend a visit. It's a lovely drive there too, right through the Scottish Borders. The show is on till 31th October.

Inside a tulip

I had a lovely day out in the Scottish Borders despite dismal weather. Driving was a bit of a challenge as on the way out it felt like I was driving in the Tweed rather than alongside it while on the return journey a giant's hand wanted to push the car off the road. All was well though but definitely not a day for outside photography, so the inside of a tulip will have to do for today. Keep safe, everyone in the path of storm Henry!
