Warholesque Frieda

I recently posted about my ATC being published in the most recent issue (no. 15) of the ATCquarterly magazine and of course that also means that the theme for our next ATC challenge has been set and it is: Homage to Andy Warhol.

As soon as I read the words I remembered that somewhere on my computer I had a program which enables you to make different effects with your pictures but it took me a while to remember what it was called (I am rather fond of that sort of programmes!). Finally I managed to locate it on my hard drive and its name is Repligator.

I have version 6 but have discovered that they are up to Version 16 now, if you're interested. Such temptation and I'll have a look at what you can do with the new version and then probably cave in! Anyway one of the things this program does it give your pictures Warholesque variations.

I decided to use a school photograph of myself (see above) taken when I was about 5 or 6 years old. Notice the hand knitted sweater (my mother was and is a great knitter!) I then played with a large variety of different Warhol like effects till I came up with 4 that I was really happy with. I could simply not decided which one to go for so went ahead and made 4 ATCs for the challenge.
I reduced the images to 2.5 x 3.5" size and printed them onto inkjet cotten fabric sheets (from Crafty Computer Paper), fused them onto Fast2Fuse, and quilted them as shown. I then added little and large heart buttons in toning colours, ironed another fabric onto the other side of the Fast2Fuse and finished the edges with satin stitching, using variegated threads.

Those turned out so great! Very Andy-esque but still looks like your style too! I love that picture of you (what an awesome sweater!)

These are fabulous, Frieda!

I wish I had a program like that for my mac!

I loved this ATC. I was reminded of using a program called PopArtPlus, in school with year six, just five or six years ago. We never got round to printing the pics on fabric(silly me!) but when we had a visit from the then Attorney-General, Lord Goldsmith, who was an ex-pupil of our school!!!!!,we presented him with his portrait treated to the Warhol, treatment. I think PopArt is still available, quite cheaply, and it says it is compatible with the Mac as well as PC. I am definitely going to try this out with some photos on fabric.

Frieda! You come up with the most awesome, interesting things to do with fabric! I love what you created for the challenge (I would have trouble choosing too), and what a sweet photo of you. : )
