Journal Quilts 2007

It must be third time lucky as after my wrestles with the 2008 and 2009 Journal Quilts the 2007 ones gave me relatively little trouble. It took a long time to put them together as they are all whipstitched together by hand and I used the same time-consuming technique for the borders but I can cope with spending hours stitching as long as it looks like the finished item will be worth the efforts spend in making it.
I did not have to choose the order in which they needed to be sewn together either, as every Journal Quilt represents a month of the year and that order is set in stone. So the first one is January and the last one December! I also found just the right hand-dyed fabric for the borders and binding and I even discovered a fabric large enough for the backing so I was really quite pleased with these JQs! If you want to have a detailed look at each of the Journal Quilts, just click on the Journal Quilt label on the right of this blog, and look for the posts in 2007 and there they will be!

I've decided not to put any more Journal Quilts together (i.e. 2004, 5 and 6) as they really are too old now for my upcoming solo exhibition. I might get around it sometime in the future but somehow I doubt it. It would be like going back in time and instead I want to move on to making new and more exciting work!

Isn't it lovely when things work out so well. When and where is your exhibition going to be? We all need to know so we can book the dates off in our diaries.

I really don't have the right words to describe all the beauty here!
Magnificent might be 1 good word!

oh how awesome, Frieda!! I remember these as you were making them. May and November are my favorites. : )
You must feel so satisfied that you could get this bunch together without too much trouble, and they look gorgeous!!!

You are a woman after my own heart! I love how you've use beads and rhinestones. I'm an art quilter, and I've often thought of embellishing my quilts, and yours has inspired me. Thanks, Lynne
