Everything is beautiful

The past week or so has been stunning. The weather has reached tropical levels of 27 to 28 degrees Celsius, the sun has been shining non stop and the world is gorgeous. And I also experienced a spurt of creativity, finally finishing a large quilt which had been giving me endless grief, making handmade books, and painting both fabric and paper in wild abandon. I blame it all on the sun!

But I have been neglecting this blog and will try and do better! This post is dedicated to two completely contrasting flowers. One the humble marigold, so beloved of council planting schemes and somehow not considered to be quite so! But these two close-ups are meant to restore it's reputation!

The next three pictures are dedicated to the queen of the garden. Miss High and Mighty, who rules all she surveys. And yes, I love and adore my roses and the time they start to flower is the highlight of my garden year. I've given you 3 different views of this beauty whose name is unknown although I strongly suspect it's one of David Austin's ones. It has a lusciousness that is unsurpassed, at least in our garden. I'm going to continue with 3 quotes that explain better than I can, why I'm so in love with flowers and nature.

"Happy are those who see beauty in modest spots where others see nothing. Everything is beautiful, the whole secret lies in knowing how to interpret it" (Camille Pissarro)

"There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not Man the less, but Nature more" (Lord Byron)

"I suppose the pleasure of country life lies really in the eternally renewed evidence of the determination to live." (Vita Sackville-West).

Those marigolds! You certainly HAVE restored their reputation. I keep staring at them and thinking they are really made out of wonderfully dyed soft fabrics. Stunning Frieda.
