Beneath It Page

It was still January when the latest challenge of the Documented Life Project 2015 (DLP15) was announced last Saturday so the general theme is still about facing the blank page, while the art challenge for this week is: Under Paper, and the Journal Prompt: What lies beneath? Under Paper is the paper that artists use underneath their actual art pieces to catch the splatters of paints, wipe off their stencils and try their stamps on, and if you're very messy (guilty as charged!) that paper becomes very interesting. So for my first step I glued on one of my under papers to a piece of watercolour paper and cut this to the right size to fit my planner this year (7.1/4" x 8").
I then cut out some silhouettes that I rather liked from a magazine and used them as a mask and painted out the background with a Silks Acrylic Glaze. That made them stand out nicely and while removing the mask (adhered with temporary adhesive) I also managed to transfer some text on one of the heads which was a wonderful accident. I outlined the figures with a Stabilo black pencil and I feathered that line a bit with a water brush pen.
I then stamped on the 3 butterflies (the stamps came free with the Craft Stamper magazine some years ago) and also added the stamped quotation that reads:

The more sand that has escaped from the hourglass of our life
the clearer we should see through it

"Should" being the operative word there. I often have my doubts about the fact that we get wiser the older we get. But on the plus side I went rather well with our journal prompt.
Even better though is the torn from a vintage book text seen above that reads: "And round beneath it, Time in hours, days, years, Driv'n by the spheres".  The two quotations work so well together and I was happy. I did some more outlining with a sparkling black marker as well as pink  and white paint markers and then edged the page with a brown inkpad.

A lovely interpretation, Frieda. I love the grouping of the figures and also the quotes! I have still to do this challenge.
