There was a partial eclipse of the sun here in the UK. In this corner of the Scottish Borders the sun was covered by the moon for 92%. Sadly it was very overcast but we were lucky enough to be able to see several glimpses when the clouds just lifted enough to see what was happening. And I managed to take a few pictures too. Not the best, it has to be said, but what counts in these circumstances is to be at the ready.
It also became very dark and strangely all the birds stopped singing and it was very eerie. Apparently in the last 500 years there have only been 5 eclipses visible in this country and I feel very privileged to have seen two of them, the previous one back in August 1999.
