My Own Path

It's another wet and dark day that will be dedicated to stitching. It's my own fault that I'm having to work non-stop on a quilt that should have been ready by now. During the summer months I was much more inclined to pick up a paint brush than a needle and as a result I sabotaged my own schedule. The one thing I did do every day were these daily collages that were made during an online workshop I did with Shelley Klammer. This one was done on the 5th July in a 5 x 8" Moleskine journal.

I have restarted the process again from yesterday, making a collage every day for 30 days, using just magazines, a glue stick and a pair of scissors. It's quick, and it's fun and it is also a way to make art without getting my head in the way. The idea is to mine what you have made for messages from your subconscious, a bit like the Morning Pages advocated by Julia Cameron in her book The Artist's Way, but using images instead of journalling.

I like that idea a lot. I had be re-reading about morning pages and considering doing them, but have not started, wasn't sure. The collage idea is intriguing! I would think it would be a very good exercise...
