Give It a Go

I'm returning to showing you pages from my Dylusions art journal that were completed quite some time ago but that I haven't shown on this blog yet. Sometimes I need a bit of time to consider if I want to show them at all or I feel it is necessary to put some distance between me and the spread till I am ready to show it in public. This particular spread was done on 9th July this year.

The background was done with collage using vintage pieces of image and text. I also glued on pieces of a paper napkin featuring flowers. I used a variety of colours (the three primaries) and two different stencils (one of shapes and the other one of leaves). To this mix were added pieces of washi tape.

Then I added the faces. The large one is from a magazine and as you can see I have painted, stencilled etc. over parts of it, while the face in silhouette on the left was done by using a mask and brushing white paint outwards from it. By one of those marvellous coincidences I'm so fond of, I found the text exactly as it is on the spread,  and just what I wanted while leaving through magazines to find the faces. It captured what this page was all about perfectly.  It's such a satisfying feeling, almost like the universe knows what you need, and gives it to you.

The postage stamps echo the words on the spread.

And yet again imagery started to emerge once the pages were done that was a complete surprise to me, such as the butterfly wings coming from the head and the words looming up from the background that belong to the vintage text I glued on for the very first layers. I was, and still am, hugely pleased with how this turned out.
