Living in Light

This is a collage I did early this morning just because I was leafing through one of my vintage books and wanted to use the engraving I came across that became the background for this piece. The book is: Swiss Pictures; drawn with pen and pencil. By Rev. Samuel Manning and published by The Religious Tract Society. There is no printed date in the book but in handwriting on the title page it says 30 October 1885. It's full of remarkable images (and you can search for the hidden religious symbols, which can be hard to find). You'll be seeing more of the imagery in this book in future.
I added my own more modern elements taken from magazines and catalogues. There are days when I'm really in the mood to mess around with scissors and glue stick and this morning was one such occasion. I'm making all these collages in a Moleskine journal sized 5 x 8", and I love leafing through it and looking at what I've done with the benefit of hindsight. Sometimes I journal on the facing pages, even long after I've produced the collage in question. I can also feel that I might want to add markings and paint eventually.

Do you use the original pages from the book, or photocopies of them?
