True Art

Colour Me Positive 2016 is continuing with weekly prompts which I interpret in my A4 Dylusions journal. This week the theme is: Playful, and the challenge: to add circles. Circles are usually to be found somewhere in most of my work so that wasn't difficult!

The spread was inspired by a small dancing figure I discovered in an Dutch magazine while leafing through it. I immediately wanted to use it and the playful theme seemed an ideal opportunity. I scanned in the figure, and used my Adobe Photoshop Elements to enlarge and mirror image it and then printed out the figures on plain paper, cut them out and used them to mark around on previously gelli plate printed paper (made using Stencilgirl stencils such as Carolyn Dube's text ones).

After cutting 4 out I added them to the background that was painted using the Circles, Circles stencil, also by Stencilgirl. At the bottom of the page I collaged on flower themed paper (from an old Flow calendar) as well as vintage papers. The figures were added using gloss gel, and outlined with a Stabilo All black pencil. Words were cut from a variety of sources and added to the circles and also outlined. Finally I used black and white markers as well as water soluble oil pastels for more outlining.

The quotation: "True art can only spring from the intimate linking of the serious and the playful" by Goethe was written alongside one of the dancing figures.
