As someone who was born in The Netherlands tulips have been a constant presence. There was a period in the 17thCentury when tulip bulbs changed hands for gigantic amounts. It is referred to as tulip mania and eventuallyresulted in a massive market crash. Before that happened though people were keen to display their tulips and special multi-tiered vases were designed specially for that purpose, very often in Delfts Blue. This is my interpretation of such vases.
