Honestly though this was no joking matter for some people who spend the night in their cars in extremely cold temperatures and the advice for our region, the Scottish Borders, this morning was to only go out in your car if it was a matter of life or death. Fortunately we had no such emergency on our hands.Give the councel their dues, two giant JCBs with snowploughs attached, came through the lane this afternoon (going in opposite directions and meeting each other in what is even in normal conditions a single track!) and we were able to take the dogs for a walk on foot. The camera came too, naturally, as I seem to be surgically attached to it. And this day too did not disappoint!
I leave you with this quotation which could not be more appropriate!
"Announced by all the trumpets of the sky, arrived the snow and, driving o'er the fields, seems nowhere to alight; the whited air hides hills and woods, the river, and the heaven, and veils the farmhouse at the garden's end. The sled and traveller stopped, the courier's feet delayed, all friends shut out, the housemates sit around the radiant fireplace, enclosed in a tumultuous privacy of storm" (Ralph Waldo Emerson)
