We can't believe it!!

As I told you yesterday it had started to snow and was doing so when I wrote yesterday's blog post. And it just kept on coming down. Around midnight we lost our electricity and this morning we discovered that we had received more snow in one single night (about 2.5 to 3 feet) than we had around the whole of the Xmas snowfall. In fact we could not even open the garage door as a) we had no electricity and b) there was so much snow in front of it that it would not have come up anyway.
Because we also had gale force winds the snow has been drifting and when I tried to walk in the lane the snow came to my thighs at places and I could not lift my legs up high enough to take another step. And here are the pictures to prove it! Nothing or no-one has moved on the lane all day and we spend most of it snow snovelling. It took over an hour alone to dig out the chicken house! John was over the moon as he could test out our generator bought for just such emergencies, and it proved to work well which meant we could get our heating going (we have a gas tank but need electricity to get the pump started) and keep the freezer and fridge at their right temperatures. I'm pleased to say that the electricity came back on just now at around 3.30 pm but the snow is still falling so who knows what will happen next. It's fair to say that I expect we will be snowed in for at least a couple of days or more. Unbelievable, this has never happened before so late in the year and tragically there have been several really serious accidents, one concerning a school bus not that far away from us and where there has been one fatality. Most main roads are completely closed and blocked with snow.

Hopefully I will be able to keep you informed with what's happening at Macbiehill but there has not been much progress with any sewing as needless to say my machines need electricity and I did not want to borrow too much from the generator because this runs on petrol and we don't want to run out!

oh heck! we had the rain and you've had the snow. Thank goodness for generators (we have one too as like you the heating is gas but needs the "spark to start"). Keep warm and safe - this has GOT to get better and end soon! Hope you can keep the electricity.

Stay warm and safe. The photos are beautiful, but the snow looks like too much, especially for this time of year.

argh - the photo is lovely - but who needs snow this time of the year?! We're having torrential downpours - it's definitely ark weather. But it means snow.

Hope your electricity holds on for you!
