Trip to Foulden

Today I went to the Borders Textile Group to teach my fabric ATC class. And really it was such a pleasure! A wonderful group and so well organized! On the way to a class I always take main roads as it's rather important that I get to the venue on time. In this case the venue itself was part of the delight. And you can understand why when I tell you that you can see the view from the carpark above. It's looking south in the direction of England.

This wonderful carpark is in Foulden, a small village to the west of Berwick on Tweed, a place which has been alternately Scottish and English through the centuries but it is now on English soil. Foulden is a delightful little villlage as you can see.

On the way home if I'm not too tired, I always try and take the scenic route and they don't come more scenic than coming back from Foulden. I took the B6355 and am rather amazed that this distinctly minor road has a number. It runs alongside the Whiteadder river, crossing and re-crossing the river over a variety of bridges and even a ford and further adorned with cattle grids. It also goes up and down and has a lovely selection of hairpin bends. Definitely not a road to be attempted when it's wet (you might get stuck in the ford) or in the winter. For the main part it's a single track lane, much like ours and it's really rather a good thing that you're more likely to come across sheep in the road than cars. I only met about 3 other cars during the journey.

I just had to stop and take pictures of the sun reflecting in the Whiteadder Reservoir, so heartstoppingly beautiful.

And the views all along this road take your breath away! Really I'm so lucky to live in this wonderful country called Scotland. By the way, you might think from the pics that it was a gorgeous, warm, sunny day and in part this was true in that the sun definitely was shining. But I had to hold on to the door of my car every time I opened it to stop it from blowing open. The wind was from the North East and is bitterly cold. But hey, I'm definitely not complaining.

Days like this make life worth living!
