Summer Solstice

It might be summer solstice today but that didn't mean we saw the sun. Instead we were blessed by unending rain. Yes, that does mean that the whole garden looks lusciously green but that does not make up for the lack of warmth. So no sunny picture but instead a picture of one of the first nasturtiums in bloom and as it's deliciously pale yellow it will have to do for today (it will also become my blip).

And on another positive note, the first rose is out! It's a briar with a sweet smell and beautiful pink colour. I was looking in my Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady and she spotted her first wild rose in flower on the 16th June, so we're not that much later here in Scotland. It also struck me that she did very much what I do every day. Walking around and spotting treasures in the garden as well as watching the bird life. A lot has changed since her day (1906) but many things specially in nature, remain the same. A reassuring thought! Now hang on here, is that thought a sign of age?! If so, I will have to banish it forthwith.

banish that thought!!! Oh you make me smile. And what a beautiful pale yellow nasturtium. So soft. I wish we could have some of your rain and I could trade you some of the heaps of sun we have here!! thinking of you, how is the new quilt coming?? Or are you out in to shed instead?

Your mention of The Diary of an Edwardian Lady made me smile. Isn't it wonderful to keep in touch with nature and note the emergence date of flowers, bird sightings, and the other small events that cycle through the outdoor world of sky and garden?

The rose is beautiful and the pale yellow of your nasturtium glows with its own inner light.
