Autumn visit to Dawyck

It was another lovely sunny day (we even drank tea outside sitting in the sun!) so we made the most of it by paying a visit to the Botanical Garden in Dawyck. I thought the pictures would mainly be of the autumn colours and indeed they were splendid as you can see above but in fact it was texture that caught and held my attention today.

The temptation in Dawyck is to walk around continually looking up. Some of the trees are massive and look mightily impressive against the blue sky. However I have to stand still when looking up otherwise I will either faint or fall over, neither of which is a good idea as Dawyck is a very hilly and at times slippery place. So I spend a lot of time standing and staring upwards.

The fluffy seedheads of some ligularia caught my attention too, this time closer to the ground and rewarded me with a wonderful fluffy photo.

These mushrooms were growing like little lanterns very far up the tree, way beyond head height, but the zoom managed to bring them a lot closer.

And finally the picture that I liked best for the day as it's so unusual, so it also became my blip today. It's a very close-up shot of fungi growing up the side of a tree. The textures as well as the colour were amazing. My lovely Lumix does these close-ups spectacularly well!
