Kailzie Gardens

We had it all today. We were greeted with about an inch of snow when we woke up, following by the falling of more wet snow, but also rain as well as hail. And happily also some sunshine. We decided to go ahead with our visit to Kailzie Gardens (just to the east of Peebles) to see the snowdrops. Sadly they were definitely past their peak but on the plus side we saw our first lamb of the season, the first flowering rhododendron as well as daffodil. Not bad for one day.

This is how the rhododendron in question looks in bud

and here it is in full bloom! So lovely and delicate with that bright red centre.

You can see the snow still laying on the higher hills and the landscape surrounding the gardens. In the foreground is the large pond that is still within the gardens itself.

Not a real heron but a wire one on guard duty to deter the actual birds from landing and fishing! The reflections in the water were so clear and there were so many different colours in the vegetation already. This garden is open to the public on a daily basis and we'll be back when the daffodils are in full bloom. Judging by the amount of their greenery that will be a display not to be missed.

There is quite a bit of sculpture to look at in the garden too and I was very taken by the two faces hidden in the grass as seen at the top of this post, with some snowdrops in front. Just the thing to blip today and to remind us that it was the snowdrops we had originally come for.

I thought it was a real heron for a minute! Glad you had a good day at the gardens despite the crazy weather! The rhododendrons are beautiful... we used to have those in CT. : )

I love the photo of the face with the snowdrops. The way the moss is growing over it and it is becoming part of the natural environment is really exciting.
Can't believe you had snow today, when we just had brillant sunshine. Best day of the year so far!
