After a break of several weeks due to the holidays, the Gothic Arches challenge is back and the theme this week is Guardian Angel. I also made this arch for the January challenge set by Lost Art Creations on our Yahoo group, where the image is provided each month and we each make a piece using it. The girl was part of our January image. I added colour to her clothing with rub-ons in blue and silver.
The background used the December collage I made for my December Journal Quilt. I had scanned this into my computer so I can use it for future project, and printed it out onto watercolour paper specially suitable for inkjet printing (from Crafty Computer Paper). I layered this onto felt and put watercolour paper on as backing.
I found a suitable quotation which reads:
Hear thy guardian angel say:
Thou art in the midst of foes -
'Watch and pray.'
I added the artbit star at the top (Lost Art Creations no. 260) as well as the crown (artbit 262). The whole piece was covered with Polymer Acrylic Gloss (from Golden) and after this had dried somewhat I added gold foiling on the wing.
The edges of the arch were antiqued with a Vintage Sepia inkpad.
