Purple Post

Yesterday seemed like October, today was high summer! What will tomorrow bring? Snow? Nothing does surprise us anymore about the weather here at Macbiehill.

Of course the non-stop sun today also brought midges. Specially first thing this morning it was awful. They must have woken up very hungry and considered me a tasty treat. Troi, the greyhound, and I suffer most. They don't seem to have any grip on Rueben's thick coat.

There still is plenty of colour in the garden, although the repeat flowering roses are in between their flowerings. However the buds are promises of delight still to come. But the two purple clematis, one outside the greenhouse and one inside (I know that one, seen above, is called Sealand Gem) are flowering their socks off.

And the sunflowers are still going strong as you can see at the very top of this post. They are nodding their yellow heads at us over the fence, following the sun. Doesn't that purple thyme look pretty against the wood of the fence. Not to mention the heavenly smell! Like summer itself. And dare I just mention what a great complimentary colour combination yellow and purple make. Luscious and delicious. Makes me want to get all my purple and yellow fabrics out and get going!

oh how beautiful! I love clematis and grew some successfully once, a few houses ago! Your sunflowers are so grand and look wonderful peeking over the fence. The fence itself is a work of art with all the lichens growing on it . . . Frieda, are your flowers and gardens doing better in general this year because of all the snow??
