There is a definite nip in the air and the first night frosts have descended on Macbiehill so it's even more important now to feed the birds. I keep on feeding throughout the summer as well because birds tend to rely on a source of food once they have found it but in the autumn and winter I add extras such as apple, dried fruit and other tasty goodies to the sunflower and other seed mixes.
And we were rewarded by a visit from this beautiful pheasant. He's not the same one as came last year as his markings are much darker. In fact the patterns on his body are simply gorgeous. He seems to realize he's in a good spot as I could creep up with my camera to take this close-up shot of him.
Today was filled with a visit to the Thistle Quilters in the morning and a long walk along the lane in the afternoon so only one miserly quilt block was produced for my Spring quilt but the good news is that it was the 100th block so I'm half way to the 200! It's like climbing a hill, and now it's down hill all the way!
