Then it was on to the Riverside Church. Notice how beautiful it looks against the blue sky. And amazingly, as it turned out, we had that blue sky all the way through our entire New York trip. There was a bit of rain at some stage but that was all. It made all the difference to the photographs and our many walking ventures.
The Grant Memorial, right next door to Riverside Church was next. This is the final resting place of President Ulysses Simpson Grant and his wife, Julia and the largest mausoleum in North America. It has a splendid arched ceiling and has a message of "Let us have peace" on it's façade that is as pertinent now as in the days it was built.
There were also some lovely mosaic benches around the mausoleum by the artist Pedro Silva and the architect Phillip Danzig.
I also loved the messages on the fencing around St. John the Divine.
