After returning to our hotel it was time to be transported to the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) where I could stand in front of Starry Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh
I have seen many of Van Gogh's paintings as I was born in the same country he was and many of his paintings can be found in collections in The Netherlands but I have never dreamed I would see this particular one in person. It was just as well there were many people around otherwise I might have burst into tears. Apparently we were there on a quiet day and I can only imagine how many people must be around on a busy day. I had a good idea of what particularly I wanted to see and I managed to lay eyes on all of them!
This is a detail of Kupka's painting Mme Kupka among Verticals (1910-11)
A detail from one of my beloved Klimt's.
Andrew Wyeth's Christina's World (1948)
I also mananged to pop into MOMA's large Jackson Pollock collection.
As the weather was a lot better than had been forecast we decided to start walking from MOMA to Central Park and passed the famous LOVE sign on the way. Once we reached the park we indulged in a hot dog! In fact we managed to eat all kinds of iconic NY food: hot dogs, pastrami on rye, bagels, muffins etc. over the duration of our stay. Some were better than others! While enjoying our hot dogs seated on one of the many benches we were witness to a bridal photo shoot:
Then we set forth and walked the park. What took me by surprise was how much nature there was to admire. The cherry trees had started to blossom already and we also saw a beautiful heron who wasn't in the least disturbed by our presence.
When we exited the park we found ourselves at 85th Street which meant a long but very sunny walk back along Madison Avenue. We passed the Metropolitan Museum of Art among other musea on the Museum Mile but kept on walking. When we reached the level of 42nd Street I glimped a sign for Grand Central Terminal and we popped in to have a look. The main terminal was reached after making our way through many corridors.
After all that walking we decided we deserved a sit down and a treat so we headed to Cipriani's where we had a great view over the entire terminus and enjoyed a Bellini cocktail each!
