In this case it took 150 days and I still need to stitch them all together and quilt. But at least my 100 blocks are done

Mini Mini Quilt 3

It's not the kind of weather to go and photograph my next mini mini piece outside! So today it is an indoor shot with a cactus to give a sense of scale.

The mini mini series of quiltlets I'm making are sized 6" square (or 15 cm). I started on the mini mini craze when I came across the Instagram feed of the Make Modern magazine, published in Australia. At the moment (till the 20th June) they are running a #MMminimini challenge with prizes and I couldn't resist.

However I hadn't been ready to be hit by the mini mini bug but I have. I suddenly felt the need to make not just a few for the competition but to set myself the goal of producing 100. I'm not setting any time limits but will just make them when I feel like it which at the moment is all the time!

This one is no. 3

Mini Mini #2

This is my second mini mini quilt sized 6" square (or 15 cm) made for the challenge issued by Modern Make, an Australian magazine about modern quilting.
I am loving making these small finished quilts. This one even has a real binding rather than a Bondawebbed one. Why is it, however, that far from making a few and entering them for the challenge (which will end on the 20th June), I suddenly have a notion that it would be such a great idea to make 100?!! Who knows if I'll get there and I'm not putting any time limits on when this should be achieved but it will be a great design challenge and it makes me happy just thinking of them all.
So you will hear and see more of these. I'm also putting them on Instagram under the hashtag #friedaminimini. Here you can find them under the label minimini.

This one is machine quilted (using the matchstick pattern), raw edged appliqued with hand stitching, and hand beaded.

12 x 12 Exhibition in Hendaye

I'm busily working away on another folding book for which I painted the papers using the gelli plate last week, and now the folding has started as you can see above.

Today is the opening day of the 12 x 12 exhibition in the Acces Espace Culturel Mendi Zolan in Hendaye in France. Thiis exhibition has already been shown in Spain and now it's France's turn. It will run from today till the 14th March 2015. Should you find yourself in the area (I should be so lucky!) it's open between 10 and 1, and then from 3 till 7pm. The official preview is this coming Friday evening.

As I explained in a previous post the whole idea is that all art shown is 12 x 12 cm (so quite petite!) and you can see the two pieces I entered above. More about them can be found here.
