StencilGirl December 2024 Project

Sometimes my quilting background insists on popping up when working on mixed media projects and this is one of those occasions.
Here is the tutorial:

StencilGirl November 2024 Project

By November I think it’s justified to introduce some sparkle into your life in honour of the
upcoming festivities and this is my contribution.

StencilGirl September 2024 Project

Here is my September project inspired by summer. Our Scottish summer this year hasn’t been the best but there have still been days when it felt and looked tropical. I always try and hold on to that during the winter months to come.

Stencilgirl July 2024 Project

The art of Frida Kahlo is always inspirational to me (and not just because of her name!), as are the images of the artist herself and I can’t resist regularly making Frida inspired art.

StencilGirl June 2024 Project

A  big clear up is happening in my studio at the moment, and I’m discovering lots of things I had long forgotten. One of these were 5 left over 5 x 7” watercolor cards, cold pressed, by Strathmore and they seemed very suited to my June Project.

StencilGirl April 2024 Project

In essence is printing on fabric using a gelli plate exactly the same as printing on paper. In this case I’m using dedicated fabric paint as it’s much easier to stitch through than acrylics and also makes the end product washable. My fabric paints are Opaques and Metallics by Colourcraft and I’m printing on silk.

Stencilgirl February 2024 Project

Sometimes all it takes to start a page in an art journal is a line read in a magazine. In this case the line “ahead of the curve” coincided with the arrival of the recent  Stencilgirl® Club stencils for November.

StencilGirl January 2024 Project

First of all I want to thank Stencilgirl® Products for giving me the opportunity to share my work with you as monthly Guest Designer  another year. And I want to thank all of you for having a look and maybe be inspired by some of my projects to make your own or pick up on a new (to you) technique. I was inspired myself this month by some of my own photographs of skies. I post a daily picture of skies on my Instagram account (@friedaquilter) and have done so since the start of 2019, and I remain in awe of how the skies change not just every day but on a minute by minute basis.

StencilGirl December 2023 Project

A bit of sparkle never goes amiss at this time of year and I love taking a peek in all the lighted windows as I’m passing, admiring the decorations. That was the inspiration for this spread. StencilGirl October 2023 Project

I always have some hand made postcards at the ready for when I might need one. And of course they sometimes disappear fast so it’s time to make some new ones. Here is the link to the tutorial:

I’ve always loved mandalas and circles and they pop up regularly in my work. There are many choices of mandala related stencils available from Stencilgirl® Products so you can select your favourite one for this project.

StencilGirl August 2023 Project

Sometimes I get inspired by just going through my stencils and simply coming upon one that attracts my attention. In this case it was the text Be True to Yourself that made me think. It is at times quite hard to even know who you are and it is also a fluid concept, as we continually change. Who I am today is more than likely not who I will be tomorrow. And I don’t know about you but my head is always full of those sort of thoughts. Sometimes I wish there was an Off switch. That was the sort of idea I tried to capture in this spread.

StencilGirl June 2023 Project

Stencilgirl® Products has a wonderful selection of stencils to choose from and today’s project was
inspired by a set of stencils that themselves were inspired by tiles. They are all sized 6 x 6” and
designed by Laurie Mika. They are gorgeous and I used three of them in today’s art. Here is the Tutorial:

StencilGirl May 2023 Project

Collage 73/100

Just like last year and years before I am once again participating in #the100dayproject. I enjoyed the project so much last year that I am continuing with it this year with slightly different guidelines. I am still making collages but on slightly larger cards; A5 (5.82 x 8.26” instead of 5 x 7” ) and this year all my cards will have a circular theme. My cards last year were already going in that direction and I decided to go with it completely this year, and the paper I’m using is painted/printed entirely by me (although some vintage paper managed to sneak in here and there).

Most papers are left-overs from previous projects and you may recognize them from my previous monthly projects for Stencilgirl® Products, but as I wanted to share here I also made some new stock.
